XRP Lawyer John Deaton Takes on Anti-Crypto Senator Warren in Massachusetts Race
The Massachusetts Senate race has taken center stage in the crypto world as XRP lawyer John Deaton challenges incumbent anti-crypto Senator Elizabeth Warren. Recent claims by Warren about Deaton’s campaign funding have come under scrutiny, with market experts revealing discrepancies in her statements.
Warren’s Claims About Crypto Funding Face Scrutiny
Amid the backdrop of cryptocurrency donations reaching $190 million in U.S. elections, Senator Warren recently claimed that 90% of Deaton’s campaign funding comes from the crypto industry. However, Fox Business journalist Eleanor Terret’s investigation reveals a different story.
According to Terret’s findings, Deaton’s campaign has raised $2 million total, with half coming from a personal loan he made to his campaign. Of the remaining $1 million in individual donations, less than $100,000 – approximately 10% – originates from crypto industry sources.
Even when including the Commonwealth Unity Fund’s additional $2.5 million super PAC contributions, crypto industry funding amounts to roughly 60% – significantly lower than Warren’s claimed 90%.
This isn’t Warren’s first controversial statement about crypto. Earlier this week, both Elon Musk and Deaton challenged her claims about inflation.
Deaton’s Crypto Advocacy Background
As a key figure in the SEC vs Ripple lawsuit, Deaton has been instrumental in supporting the Ripple camp through regulatory challenges. He has provided pro bono legal services to approximately 75,000 token holders, including 627 Massachusetts residents.
“Whether she remains a U.S. Senator or returns to private citizenship, I intend to continue representing these token holders in this ridiculous appeal made by the SEC,” Deaton stated, emphasizing America’s need to lead in innovation.
Deaton’s pro-crypto stance has garnered support from industry leaders, including Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse and Coinbase’s Brian Armstrong, who have endorsed the Republican nominee’s campaign.
